Do you have any information on Aaron Price, Cherokee, (wife or parents) who fought at the Horseshoe and was wounded. He died 1845 and Lewis Downing collected his pension. We have those records but are there any other records about his family. Lewis was either a son in law or grandson, we believe.

My ancestor served as a private US soldier in Capt. D Strickland's Co. Lt. Col. T. Longley's Reg't.
Believe it was during the seige of Boston. Could someone inform me about what service he might have seen? If anyone can point me to a history of this regiment I would appreciate knowing the name of the book, etc. Thanks for the help!

John,
Let me challenge you with a question which may be about the other side of the trenches:
In searching for one of my wife's French Canadian ancestors, I've found reference to one Joseph CHAMPAGNE, who apparently served as a private in Captain Paquet's Company during the War of 1812. He was later listed as living in Ontario in 1815.
Some information I got from the book of pensioners of the War of 1812 makes it appear that Joseph Champagne fought on the US side.
His was listed as follows: "Joseph Champagne, SC-4158, Franzine (Jachts) m 1813 Detroit MI, srv James H. Andrain's MI Mil, lived Detroit MI and Macomb City MI."
Assuming we're talking about the same Joseph Champagne, I assume that "Captain Paquet" would have been the commander of the immediate to which Joseph Champagne was assigned within Andrain's MI Mil.
I guess my basic question is where would I find more information about the MI Militia in the war. I've picked up several books on the war, but they don't go into very much detail. I'll try checking the National Archives for more information on Champagne's pension. If you have any suggestions, I'd greatly appreciate them.
Any idea who Captain Paquet might have been and where I might learn more about his company and Joseph CHAMPAGNE? I'd appreciate any help.

I am looking for any information or reference material on the above subject. I copied the following info from the History of Dearborn and Ohio Counties, Indiana from their earliest settlement. F.E. Weakley & Co., Publishers 1885.
"HENRY NEWTON, of Lawrenceburgh, Indiana was a native of the State of Vermont. In his early youth he resided near the city of Erie, Penn., and assisted in getting out timber for the purpose of building United States vessels, to be used in the war of 1812-15, and which were used by Commodore Perry at his victory on Lake Erie. Mr. Newton joined the army and marched to Detroit to the relief of Hull. He lived in the vicinity of Lawrenceburgh upward of sixty years. His death occurred in l881, aged ninety-one years."

Looking for information about the Flank Company of the 1st Lincoln Militia, of Upper Canada during the War of 1812. The Flank companies were primarily Skirmishers.
I do know that the 1st Lincoln Militia were sent back to Fort George prior to the Battle of Chippawa in 1814.
Would like to know which engagements they participated in.
My GGGG Grandfather and brother both served in this company. Their names were JOHN McCOMBS and SAMUEL McCOMBS.

I am looking for information on Captain George RECORDS. According to some accounts I have read, "Captain Records was a hero of the War of 1812, having mustered a company of volunteers, marched them to Erie, PA to guard the navy-yard until Commodore Perry had manned his fleet against the British."
I don't have much more information on him other than the fact that he spent time in Clearfield County, Pennsylvania and is buried in Worth Township, Centre County, Pennsylvania.
Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find out his dates of military service or his unit. I'd be glad for any information you can give me about RECORDS or his part in the war. If you don't have the information, I'd appreciate suggetions on where to look next.

Jon Udell and I are working on the Udell Family Tree and he has sent me this query that someone with knowledge of the War of 1812 may be able to help with.
The query is as follows:
My presumed GGGG Grandfather Mathew Udell was given a note (dated 13 Feb 1813) allowing him to be admitted to "the invalid Establishment at Wm Henry". We don't know if he was ever admitted (but I don't know how the note would have been found in archives if he had not been). I had been told that "Wm Henry" was Fort William Henry on Lake Champlain in NY, and that they had no record of Mathew, but I wonder if that is really true. Do you know anything about Fort Henry in Kingston?
John, are there any establishments during the War of 1812 that would have been referred to as William Henry other than Fort William Henry on Lake Champlain? Would Fort Henry in Kingston possibly figure in somewhere.
You can reach Jon Udell at jon.udell@pobox.com.
Thank you,

I have an ancestor living in the Town of Niagara, N.Y. in the 1820 Census at the age of 45+. His father had been a Captain in the Vermont Militia in the Revolutionary War. I would like to find the muster rolls for Niagara for the War of 1812 to determine if he participated in any capacity in this war. He would be 40 which would likely put him in a leadership position rather than combatant. I would appreciate any help you can give me to find these rolls as I am working at this from south of Ottawa, Ontario. His name was Oliver Udell or Udall.
Thank youSusan Kudrinko

I'm Mike Burns a Michigan computer consultant. More importantly, I have been researching a historical novel covering the early 1800s. Of the period's significant events, the War of 1812-13 was a true turning point. Because it was fought between people's of like background, it might be called the First North American Civil War.
My objective is to show the war through parties on both sides of the Niagara Frontier battles. I have researched several histories from the US viewpoint but only one with the Canadian perspective.
What others would you recommend? Also looking for resources covering:
Hoping you find the time to help, I thank you in advance for any aide.
Cordially,

I found muster rolls in PENNSYLVANIA ARCHIVES, Series 6, Vol. 7, p. 661, Ed. Thomas Lynch Montgomery, Harrisburg, 1907. It did not mention where it was deployed.
It was probably composed of men from Centre or Clinton Counties, PA (West Branch Susquehanna). It might have been associated with Brig. Genl. Richard Crooks whose Pennsylvania troops marched to Upper Sandusky in 1812 to join 12,000 Ohio militia.
Also want to find out if General Richard Crooks was the same Richard Crooks who served as a private under Colonel William Crawford (in the disastrous 1782 expedition to Upper Sandusky in which Crawford was burned at the stake.)
Let me know if I can copy any muster rolls etc.for you from the PA Archives. I live 200 miles from the San Franciso library that has a set, but will go there to do research sometime in late spring.
Thanks again for the reply.
